Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer robbed at machete-point in Nevis

Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was robbed at machete-point at his vacation home on the Caribbean island of Nevis on Feb. 9, the Washington Post reported.

A masked man with a machete broke into the home around 10 p.m., took about $1,000 in cash and left, a Supreme Court spokeswoman said, according to the Associated Press. Breyer, 73, his wife, Joanna, and two friends were not harmed.

It is not known whether security officers accompanied Breyer to Nevis, the Washington Post reported. No arrests had been made as of today, CNN reported.

According to the AP, the last Supreme Court Justice to be the victim of a crime was David Souter, who suffered minor injuries when he was assaulted in 2004 by a group of young men while jogging alone in a city street. Before that, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had her purse snatched in 1996 while walking with her husband and daughter near their home in Washington, DC.

The Supreme Court is currently in recess and resumes public sessions next week, according to CNN.
