Lawmaker says Girl Scouts are destroying 'American family values'

Calling the Girl Scouts a "radicalized organization" that supports "homosexual lifestyles," a state representative from Indiana has told colleagues he can't support a proclamation honoring the group's 100th anniversary.

Rep. Bob Morris, a Republican from Fort Wayne, Ind., sent a letter to Indiana House Republicans over the weekend explaining why he was the only lawmaker not to sign onto the resolution, according to the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.

His letter, in which he alleges the group is aligned with honorary president Michelle Obama's "pro-abortion" viewpoint, has since gone viral, National Public Radio reported.

Morris wrote he did a "small amount of web-based research," and claims to have found that the Girl Scouts are a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood, that they allow transgender females to join, "just like any real girl," and that they encourage sex, the Journal Gazette reported.

In the letter, Morris also contends that the Girl Scouts gave out a Planned Parenthood pamphlet at a 2010 United Nations seminar titled "Happy, Healthy and Hot" that focused on sex.

Girl Scouts of the USA has denied this, NPR reported.

"I challenge each of you to examine these matters more closely before you extend your name and your reputation to endorse a group that has been subverted in the name of liberal progressive politics and the destruction of traditional American family values," Morris wrote.

In response, Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana has created a document listing its beliefs here.

On the issue of sexuality, it states that both the national Girl Scouts and the state chapter "believe that issues related to human sexuality and reproductive health are best left to parents or guardians to discuss with their daughters."
