Two people are dead and seven are wounded after a shooter opened fire at a psychiatric clinic at the University of Pittsburgh this afternoon, CBS News reported.

One of the dead is the gunman, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) spokesman Paul Wood said, according to CBS News.

The gunman began firing in the lobby of the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic just before 2 p.m EST, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. A bullet grazed the leg of a University of Pittsburgh police officer, officials said.

The building, which houses the UPMC psychiatric and research units and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry, was evacuated after the shooting, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Pitt notified students and staff of the shooting via email and text message shortly after 2 p.m., CBS News reported. The text message alert said: "An active shooter has been identified at Western Psychiatric Institute. Several injured. Possible second actor in Western Psych. Lockdown recommended until further notice. If safe to do so, tell others of this message.” A second shooter did not exist, officials now believe.
