BOSTON, MA –The world news site GlobalPost has been honored as the recipient of a prestigious 2012 Edward R. Murrow Award for its “On Location” video series. It is the second year in a row that the series has been recognized with a Murrow award, which is given by The Radio Television Digital News Association, to honor excellence in electronic journalism. In May, “On Location” was the recipient of a George Foster Peabody Award, the oldest award for electronic media.

“It is an incredible honor to win the Murrow once, but to win the award in back-to-back years for the same series exceeds all our expectations,” said GlobalPost Editor Thomas Mucha. “With so much video on the web, we’ve worked hard to create something that is truly distinctive in the way it illuminates important international issues for our audience. It’s wonderful that our correspondents and shooters around the globe are being recognized. The work they deliver lives up to the standard of excellence embodied by the Murrow Award.”

“On Location” received the award for Video News Series in the Online News Operation – National category. Other winners in the category included The Washington Post, The Associated Press, and The New York Times. A compilation of 8 videos, which were part of the award submission, can be viewed here: GlobalPost Edward R. Murrow Submission.

GlobalPost’s “On Location” employs the highest standards of professional video production. Each episode takes viewers to a remote location—from deep inside Syrian dungeons; to the war-torn Libyan city of Sirte; to the illegal adoption rings in Shanghai; to the burning streets of Tibet, the flood-ravaged shores of Japan and the frontline of the drug war in Mexico. The reports introduce viewers to extraordinary characters and tell compelling stories that provide context to key global issues. In 2011, GlobalPost published 75 “On Location” videos reported from 34 different countries.
