Police have released the 911 call made by a New Jersey mom who allegedly placed her son's head in a freezer before fatally stabbed herself.
Transcripts have been released of the 911 call made by Chevonne Thomas, the New Jersey mom who police said decapitated her 2-year-old son and placed his head in a freezer before fatally stabbed herself.
NJ101.5 was among those media outlets which published excerpts of the 911 call from Thomas, 33, of Camden.
According to NBC, Thomas killed her son, Zahree, and called 911 just after midnight Tuesday, then fatally stabbed herself while officers were attending the scene.
Thomas, who according to NBC had previously admitted blacking out after smoking marijuana laced with PCP (phencyclidine), first told the 911 dispatcher that her boyfriend had stabbed Zahree.
Later during the call she said, "You know what, I did it, I’m lying, I’m lying, I’m lying, I did it," according to the reported transcript.
Asked if she took medication, Thomas said she used to take Prozac, an antidepressant.
Police cited by NJ101.5 said they found Zahree's body on the first floor of the Camden home and his head in the freezer. He had also been stabbed in the chest.
The Associated Press reported that Thomas had lost custody of Zahree in 2010 after allegedly leaving him unattended in a vehicle and admitting to drug use. She regained custody five months ago.
New Jersey’s child welfare agency said in a statement that its staff had visited the family regularly, providing “extensive” support.
However, the AP pointed out that several "high-profile lapses" had seen the agency placed under federal oversight.
NBC cited a neighbor, Melanie Troutman, as saying that she saw Thomas sitting with her boyfriend in front of their home about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, topless and "clearly upset."
Thomas reportedly stabbed herself in the neck with a kitchen knife within five minutes of hanging up from the 911 call.
