NEW YORK — President Barack Obama and GOP rival Mitt Romney took a break from campaigning Thursday evening to roast each other at a black tie charity dinner for the Catholic Archdiocese of New York.

The annual charity benefit comes just two days after the candidates went head-to-head in one of the most combative presidential debates in recent history at nearby Hofstra University on Long Island.

In what could be called some of the funniest lines of the campaign season, the president and his Republican rival poked fun at themselves.

Obama joked “Some of you may have noticed, I had a lot more energy in our second debate. I felt really well rested after the nice long nap I had in the first debate,” the Washington Post reported.

While Romney countered; "A campaign can require a lot of wardrobe changes — blue jeans in the morning, perhaps, suits for a lunch fundraiser, sport coat for dinner — but it’s nice to finally relax and wear what Ann and I wear around the house.”

But the two weren't shy about taking shots at each other:

Obama began his speech asking those gathered at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel to “everyone please take their seats. Otherwise Clint Eastwood will yell at them" while Romney said "I was actually hoping the president would bring along Joe Biden, because he will laugh at anything."
