An official from the Lehigh County Humane Society has confirmed that 11 puppies found dead near Lower Macungie Township Park on Friday were skinned to the bone.

Bruce Fritch of the Humane Society said that puppies have been taken to the society's shelter in Allentown and an investigation is underway, according to Lehigh Valley's newspaper The Morning Call. While the investigation continues, the Lehigh Valley Pitbull Awareness Club has announced on its Facebook page that it has started a reward fund for anyone with information on the case.

"We have decided to help offer a reward in response to this disgusting discovery," the club said on Facebook. "We have pledged $100 to start in hopes that others will join."

The club's co-founder, David Lee, said about $600 in pledges toward a reward had been made as of Sunday afternoon, note the Call. The majority of the money has been pledged by individuals.

Humane Society officials have said they will perform tests to determine whether the puppies were domestic or wild, reported the Associated Press. State police are also investigating.

The puppies' case may be connected to another incident in which a dog was found along a highway in Lynn Township, located in western Lehigh County, earlier this month, according to Patch. The dog appeared to have been skinned and cooked.
