NEW YORK – A suspect in the subway train killing of Indian immigrant Sunando Sen is charged with murder today after she made statements implicating herself in the crime while being questioned by police, CNN reported.

Cops picked up the 31-year-old woman following a tip that came in after they released surveillance images of her running away from the scene, the New York Daily News reported.

The suspect is Erica Menendez of the Bronx, The New York Times reported.

She was charged today with murder as a hate crime, CBS News reported, after telling police that she thought Sen was Muslim, and that she hated Muslims.

Sen was raised Hindu, according to his roommate, the New York Times reported.

He was pushed onto the tracks at the 40th St./Lowery subway station in Sunnyside, Queens, as he waited for a train on Thursday evening, the New York Daily News reported. He was crushed to death by an 11-car No. 7 train.

Police released security video of an overweight woman in a ski jacket and sneakers running from the subway platform, CNN reported.

They also offered a $12,000 reward for information on her whereabouts, the New York Daily News reported.

Sen, 46, the co-owner of a printing shop, did not deserve his tragic death, friends told the New York Daily News.

“He was a nice and quiet and very good person,” his roommate Ar Suman, 33, told the New York Daily News. “Seven days a week he worked. He wanted to be his own boss.”
