The young woman who was driving a stolen SUV involved in a crash that killed her and five of her friends, did not have a valid driver's license, officials said Tuesday.

It was also reported that the two survivors of the accident, Brian Henry, 18, and Asher Lewis, 15, in Warren, Ohio, told police the alleged driver, 19, was speeding and driving recklessly before Sunday's accident, ABC News reported.

Henry told ABC he remembers the eight of them, aged from 14 to 19, were packed into a car, some without seatbelts.

He said they were almost home when the Honda Passport lost control and plunged into a pond. He hit his head and lost consciousness but was woken by the icy cold water.

"First thing I thought was that I just wanted to give up," Henry said.

"I was like, I can't go out like that."

It took him about seven attempts to smash the window but when he tried to swim out he was tangled in seatbelts. He had to take off his shoes and pants to escape.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the incident though speed is the leading culprit, noted the Associated Press.

The car was reported stolen on Monday, more than a day after the crash. It wasn't clear if the passengers knew the car was stolen, AP reported Monday.

State police identified the deceased as 19-year-old Alexis Cayson; Andrique Bennett, 14; Brandon Murray, 17; and Kirklan Behner, Ramone White and Ray, all 15, CBS News reported.

“I just want everybody to know, even if you’re going through something, pick up the phone and call,” said Ashia Cayson to WKBN, the sister of deceased driver Alexis Cayson. “Tell them you love them because you never know what could happen. Tomorrow is not promised to anybody.”

Warren is a small Ohio city located near the Pennsylvania state line in the northeastern US, with a steel-mining background.
