George Prescott Bush, George W. Bush's nephew and the grandson of George H.W. Bush, on Tuesday filed to run for land commissioner in Texas, reported the Associated Press.

This is the 36-year-old's first run for office, said USA Today.

But it's a smart first move from the lawyer, real estate man and consultant, according to AP, saying the position "can be a stepping stone to higher office" and pointing to the example of former land commissioner-turned-lietuenant-governor David Dewhurst.

The son of Mexican mother and a fluent Spanish speaker himself, Bush is seen as a potential game changer for a beleaguered Republican party eager to win the loyalty of America's large Hispanic community, said USA Today. Bush is the son of ex-Florida governor Jeb Bush.

He also recently served as the state's Republican Party deputy finance chairman, said AP.

His spokesman, Trey Newton, told AP that the current Land Commissioner in Texas had been alerted to Bush's decision to run.
