Former Texas judge Eric Williams was charged with capital murder today in the killings of two prosecutors who tried him on theft charges.

Williams, 46, had been jailed since his arrest last weekend on charges of emailing an anonymous threat to law officers one day after one of the prosecutors and his wife were found dead, The Associated Press reported.

Williams' wife, Kim Williams, was arrested yesterday on capital murder charges.

According to an arrest affidavit, she told authorities her husband shot and killed Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, in March and assistant prosecutor Mark Hasse in January.

She also confessed to taking part in the killings, though her role is not clear.

Authorities believe the slayings were motivated by revenge after McClelland and Hasse prosecuted him on theft charges that resulted in his removal from office and the loss of his law license.

The case left the couple broke and without health insurance, Kim Williams has said.
