A New Mexico man stabbed four people at a Catholic church in Albuquerque during Sunday mass today.

Two were critically wounded, but police said all were expected to survive, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

Police spokesman Robert Gibbs said a man in his 20s leapt over several pews at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church as the choir began to sing its closing hymn, the Associated Press reported.

He attacked choir members until several parishioners wrestled him to the ground and held him down until the police arrived.

The man was taken into custody but has not been identified, Gibbs said. Officials don't think he is a member of the church.

“As to the motive regarding the multiple stabbing, this has not yet been determined,” Gibbs said.
