A US Airways was forced to make a belly landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on Saturday.

The plane was carrying  31 passengers and three crew members. The airline's spokesman Davien Anderson told CNN that there were no injuries.

Anderson said the turboprop plane, US Airways flight 4560 operated by Piedmont Airlines, left Philadelphia shortly before 11:00 pm Friday evening and was circling Newark in a holding pattern while the crew attempted to get its landing gear down.

After a number of attempts, the pilot made an emergency landing at about 1:00 am Saturday morning that required the plane to land on its belly.

All the passengers and crew members were evacuated and taken to the terminal where they collected their luggage and made their way home.

Newark International Airport officials confirmed the plane was removed from the runway by 9:30 am and the airport's flights were currently running on schedule, The New York Times said.

Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident, according to the Times.
