Arizona wildfire that killed 19 firefighters fully contained as memorials held for Hotshot crew (VIDEO)

The news came on the same day as several funerals were held for the fallen firefighters from the Prescott Fire Department's elite Granite Mountain Hotshots wildfire crew.

The Arizona wildfire that killed 19 firefighters is fully contained, media cited the Forest Service fire center as saying late Wednesday.

The news came on the same day as several funerals were held for the fallen firefighters from the Prescott Fire Department's elite Granite Mountain Hotshots wildfire crew.

The men died June 30 while battling the Yarnell Hill fire, 30 miles from their home base, that according to CNN had consumed 8,400 acres northwest of Phoenix.

As the out-of-control blaze overran them they were forced to lie down under fire shelters, blankets meant to protect against flames and heat — a last resort to survive in such conditions.

Emotions already raw after the tragedy were further tested after the publication, via social media, of a photograph showing the body bags containing the firefighters' remains lined up on the scorched earth, each draped in an American flag.

The Los Angeles Times, which also published the photo, said it was first published on a social media page dedicated to the crew.

The paper added the following message to its report:

Once its authenticity was verified, The Times decided to publish it based on its news value.

Meanwhile, thousands attended a memorial service for the men at a minor league hockey arena in nearby Prescott Valley attended by Vice President Joe Biden, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, US Sen. John McCain and other members of the state's congressional delegation.

According to Fox News, officials also announced Wednesday the establishment of the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial Overlook along Highway 89.

A flagpole erected at the site where the men died can be seen from the overlook.
