Anthony Weiner drops to fourth in new NYC mayoral poll

Anthony Weiner has dropped to fourth place in the New York City mayoral race in the wake of his latest sex scandal, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

Carlos Danger has done some major damage to Anthony Weiner's New York City mayoral campaign, a new poll shows.

The Democrat has dropped from first to fourth place in the race after admitting in a news conference last week to sending lewd messages to women following his resignation from Congress in 2011, according to the Quinnipiac University survey released Monday.

More than half of likely Democratic voters believe Weiner should quit the race.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn now leads with 27 percent of likely Democratic voters, followed by Public Advocate Bill DeBlasio (21 percent), former city comptroller Bill Thompson (20 percent) and Weiner with 16 percent support.

"With six weeks to go, anything can happen, but it looks like former Congressman Anthony Weiner may have sexted himself right out of the race for New York City mayor," Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, told CNN.

Weiner has repeatedly rejected calls to drop out.

That despite intensifying calls from Democrats to him to do just that, and the resignation of his campaign manager this past weekend.

The party primaries are set for Sept. 10.

A separate poll released Monday did show that 78 percent of female clients on the "sugar daddy" dating website www.seekingarrangement.com approve of Weiner.
