Just a little more than a month after a Navy contractor killed 12 people at the US Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC, two National Guard soldiers were wounded at an armory outside a US Navy facility in Millington, Tenn.

A third National Guard soldier reportedly shot at the two men during a fight at an armory near the Naval Support Activity Mid-South facility, near Memphis.

The armory is a non-secured area of the Navy complex.

The shooter hit one soldier in the foot and the other in the leg. Neither soldier’s wound is life-threatening.

The unidentified third soldier was stopped by other National Guard employees and is now in police custody, officials said.

"I'm sure there could have been more injury if they hadn't taken him in custody or gotten him restrained," local Police Chief Rita Stanback said at a press briefing Thursday.

The site was locked down after the shooting, but the lockdown has since been lifted.

At a press conference, Maj. Gen. Max Haston, Tennessee's adjutant general, said the shooter is a sergeant first class and the two victims are his superiors – a major and a sergeant major.
