Police arrested a 36-year-old man early Tuesday suspected of shooting to death his mother, aunt and three others at four locations in the small town of Terrell, Texas.

Charles Everett Brownlow Jr., 36, was found in a wooded area at about 1:30 a.m. following a manhunt and high-speed chase through the town 30 miles east of Dallas, police told The Dallas Morning News.

Police had no immediate motive for the grisly killings in three homes and a convenience store.

"We're all in a state of shock," police Chief Jody Lay told The Associated Press. "You have a tendency to think, 'How can that happen here?' This is a country community, a rural community, people are real close. This is going to be, it's going to have a really big impact on us."

The slayings began shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, when police discovered the body of a woman who had been shot in the head, UPI reported.

Police believe Brownlow then set fire to his home, where the body of another woman was found.

At about 10:30 p.m., police found a man and a woman dead in their Terrell home with a 3-year-old child who was unharmed. Fifteen minutes later, a male clerk was found dead at a local convenience store.

Brownlow has a history of criminal behavior, and had called family members on Monday telling them he was going to kill them, according to Reuters.
