A musician shot and killed several members of an Iranian indie rock band in their Brooklyn apartment before killing himself on the roof in an apparent dispute over money, police said Monday.

Two of the four dead were brothers and members of The Yellow Dogs, an Iranian band who came to the US three years ago after rising to fame in a film about the underground music scene there, band manager Ali Salehezadeh told the Associated Press.

The New York Post identified the gunman as Raefe Ahkbar.

The Wall Street Journal cited law enforcement officials identifying the shooter as Ali Akbar Raffie.

He was a member of another band from Iran, the Free Keys, and hadn't spoken to The Yellow Dogs in months because of an unspecified conflict, Salehezadeh told the AP.

The Journal said the authorities were trying to determine if the shooter was a member of The Yellow Dogs, as the bands seemed to have overlapping members.

Detectives suspect there was a dispute over money, but were still investigating, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

The dead were tentatively identified by police as brothers Soroush (Looloosh) Farazmand, 27, who played guitar, and Arash Farazmand, who played the drums.

Also killed was Ali Eskandarian, a 35-year-old musician with another band.

A fourth man, 22-year-old Sasan Sadeghpourosko, was shot twice in his right arm and survived the massacre, according to the New York Daily News.

He was in stable condition at a local hospital on Monday.
