Mourners are crowding in Caracas to catch a glimpse of the remains of late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. His coffin is currently on its way to the Military Museum, the Associated Press reported.

Chavez's body was supposed to be embalmed and put on permanent display at the Military Museum, but those plans have been canceled, El Universal reported

Experts say that Chavez's body simply decomposed too much, so embalming it is no longer an option. “Russian and German scientists have arrived to embalm Chavez, and they tell us it’s very difficult because the process should have started earlier,” interim President Nicolas Maduro announced earlier this week, Reuters reported.

Chavez’s final resting place is still unknown, Bloomberg News reported.
