Earthquakes rock Delhi, Argentina

Earthquakes shook New Delhi and Argentina early Monday, but there were no immediate reports of any casualties.

The earthquake in Delhi, the Indian capital, came in at a 5.2 on the Richter scale, the US Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, the BBC said.

Delhi is near multiple fault lines, and the Wall Street Journal noted that earthquakes are felt fairly frequently in the city.

The earthquake in Argentina struck nearly 70 miles southeast of the city of Santiago del Estero, the US Geological Survey said. Santiago del Estero is in north central Argentina and has an estimated population of about 245,000.

“A quake of that magnitude nearer the earth's surface could cause severe damage in a densely populated area,” Reuters said.

Agence France-Presse referred to the quake as “strong,”  but said there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
