Indonesia earthquake, 6.3 magnitude, strikes near eastern coast

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit near Indonesia's eastern coast on Monday, Reuters reported.

Damage has not been reported, and no tsunami warning was issued for the quake that originated in the Banda Sea, 85 miles southeast of the Indonesian town of Ambon, AFP reported, citing the US Geological Survey. The earthquake took place at 6:43 pm local time on Monday, according to AFP.

Seismic activity is common in the area of the Pacific known as the "Ring of Fire," according to PBS.
