North Korea's state news agency just called Obama some insanely racist things

Obama is no stranger to virulent racism at home and abroad. Leave it to North Korea to kick it up a few abhorrent notches.

North Korea's state-run news agency, Korea Central News Agency (KCNA), has called US President Barack Obama, among other things, a "wicked black monkey."

Obama is no stranger to virulent racism at home and abroad. Here in the United States, for example, he's been called a "subhuman mongrel" by rock-musician-turned-professional-bigot Ted Nugent, while shrugging off the slightly more elegant racism of the Tea Party. Overseas, a Belgian newspaper recently published a photoshopped image that depicted Obama and his wife Michelle as apes.

Leave it to North Korea to kick the anti-Obama racism up a few abhorrent notches.

On May 2, KCNA published an article full of racist rhetoric that's surprisingly EVEN for North Korea. It was a response to Obama's April visit to South Korea. Ironically, the agency published the article around the same time that it published another article accusing the United States of human rights abuses. That article pointed to persistent racial discrimination in American law and society.

But that was that article, and this is this article, which is all variations on a racist theme: Obama is a monkey.

Obama has "gut-wrenching, revolting facial features." He is "a crossbreed with unclear blood" with the "figure of a monkey" and not even the "basic appearance of a human being."

Some of the commentary came from people the KCNA had interviewed. (KCNA, one should note, did not need to print these things.) “How Obama looks like makes me disgusted,” said Kang Hyuk, a worker at the Chollima Ironworks Factory, in one of the tamer comments.

Representatives from the US State Department, which probably didn't need to release a statement about something as outrageous as this, called the comments in KCNA “ugly and disrespectful” and “offensive and ridiculous and absurd.”
