Pakistani officials say militants who kidnapped 23 tribal policemen on Thursday near the city of Peshawar have shot 21 of them dead, BBC News reported.

According to Voice of America:

Regional government spokesman Naveed Akbar Khan said officials found the bodies early Sunday in the Jabai area of the Frontier Region near Peshawar.

Two of the captured troops reportedly escaped, according to BBC News. One of them is critically wounded.

While no group has claimed responsibility, it is suspected that the Pakistani Taliban is behind the attack, VOA reported.

The tribal policemen were abducted when 200 armed militants swarmed two checkpoints south of Peshawar on Thursday, stealing guns, burning buildings and killing two policemen in the raid, BBC News reported.
