A conservative French lawmaker who’s a staunch opponent of equal marriage rights for gays and lesbians has admitted that he voted for France’s “Marriage for All” bill on April 23 by mistake.

“There were three buttons flashing, and yes, I pressed the wrong button! I went to the services of the Assembly to correct my vote,” UMP Party member Henri Guaino told Le Lab.

The error was corrected, so his  vote was eventually counted against the bill.

However, the incident made Guaino — whose last name is pronounced something like ‘gay-no’ — the brunt of jokes in the assembly and beyond.

Socialist MP Colette Capdevielle suggested he change his name to "Gay-Oui," according to the Gay Star News. Other commenters just went straight for the gifs.

Other gay marriage opponents, including former Education Minister Luc Chatel, Alain Christian and Marianne Dubois, made the same mistake, voting “oui” to same-sex marriage in error, Le Parisien reported.

The French parliament ultimately passed the “Marriage for All” bill by a vote of 331 to 225, making France the 14th country in the world to legalize gay marriage.
