Less than a day after a man committed suicide inside Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the feminist group Femen staged a mock protest on the same spot.

While wearing red hot pants, black stockings and the words “May fascism rest in hell” scrawled across her chest, the lone demonstrator held a gun to her mouth for the cameras.

On her back, it read “in gay we trust.”

“Just right now, FEMEN’s angel of death held a mono-protest on the altar of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in the same place of yesterday’s suicide fascist,” the group wrote on its Facebook page. “On the body of ‘sekstremist’ with the gun was written the prophetic motto ‘May fascism rest in hell.’”

“Thus, FEMEN calls upon all European Nazism, in the face of all their under-Hitlers and half-Mussolinis, to follow the example of the ultra-right man Dominique Venner and immediately commit a suicide of their believes (sic) excluding theirselves (sic) from the political arena in Europe. Hurry up, there is not so much place left on the sacrificial altar of Notre-Dame de Paris.”

Venner, the man who shot himself at the cathedral on Tuesday, was a far-right writer and activist who recently wrote about his opposition to same-sex marriage. Venner, 78, left a note on the altar before shooting himself through the mouth.

Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right Front National political party, lauded Venner’s life and accomplishments.

“All respect to Dominique Venner whose final, eminently political act was to try to wake up the people of France,” Le Pen said on Twitter, adding “it is in life and hope that France will renew and save itself.”

Femen, a Ukraine-based group, often disrobes at major political or sporting events. Past protests have included the European soccer championship, outside the Vatican and at the gates of a world economic forum.
