News of the World's former legal manager, Tom Crone, was arrested Thursday morning in London, the Telegraph reported.

Crone, a 25-year veteran of the Rupert Murdoch-backed tabloid's legal department, was "arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications," according to the Telegraph.

The Associated Press did not name Crone as the man arrested Thursday, but reported that he was arrested in connection with "Operation Weeting, one of three investigations into media wrongdoing and corruption" that has been initiated in the wake of the scandal.

Crone is the twenty-fifth person arrested under the operation since British police last year launched an investigation into the high-profile phone hacking scandal that resulted in News of the World's closure, the BBC reported.

Other charges from Operation Weeting, the Scotland Yard investigation launched in response to criticism of earlier police inquiries, concern eavesdropping on the voicemails of celebrities, ministers and members of the public, including the actor Jude Law and two former British home secretaries, GlobalPost reported in July.

The Financial Times reported that Crone is a highly regarded media lawyer.
