Prince William and Kate Middleton will file a criminal complaint against the photographer that took racy photos of the shirtless Duchess vacationing in the South of France, the BBC reported Sunday.

The complaint will be made to the French prosecution department, citing a breach in privacy, says the BBC. The Irish Daily star, French rag Closer, and a magazine out of Italy have already leapt on the delightfully scandalous shots.

William and Kate's legal team will confront Closer magazine at the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Nanterre in Paris, seeking an injunction and damages.

It is perhaps unsurprising that the French, hailing from the land of topless bathing, thought that publishing the photos was a fantastic idea. The more-closeted British royals likely have other ideas.

Closer magazine ahs defended their publication decision, says the BBC, saying "The photos we selected are by no means degrading." The Irish Daily Star, however, appears to be more contrite, condemning the decision.

More scandal is to come: the Washington Post reports that Chi magazine, affiliated with Closer and owned by a Berlusconi affiliated company, is set to publish 26 pages of the photos next week. One wonders how many photos of topless royalty the public can stomach. (The answer is likely: many).

In a much more nail biting incident for the royal family, Prince Harry narrowly avoided death in Afghanistan this weekend after insurgents attacked his base and killed two US marines. Although Harry is a prime Taliban target, he is going to stay and fight, reported the Herald Sun Australia.
