UK police told a coroner’s inquest on Thursday that exiled Russian tycoon Berezovsky was found dead with a cord bound around his neck and that similar material was attached to a shower rail.

The 67-year-old Russian oligarch was found dead in the bathroom of his home outside London over the weekend. That door was locked from the inside.

Agence France Presse reported investigators found his death was consistent with hanging, but police are still searching Berezovsky’s property and doing autopsy tests.

Detective Inspector Mark Bissell of Thames Valley Police said there were no signs of a struggle, but police could not yet rule out the possibility a third party was involved, the Washington Post said.

Berezovsky’s friends say he was depressed after a losing $54 million lawsuit against former business partner Roman Abramovich but some suspect that the one-time Putin supporter may have been murdered.
