Two officers were killed immediately by gunfire when their vehicle was attacked in the northern city of al-Arish, authorities said, while the third died of wounds later in the hospital. No one has claimed responsibility for the assault, but local officials said Islamic militants are believed behind the incident, according to Reuters.
The attackers fled the scene of the crime and have not been found, Al Jazeera cited state television as saying.
Egyptian forces are currently searching the area for those responsible for the August 5 killing of 16 guards stationed on Egypt's Israeli border.
Sinai is a known crossing point for militants and considered a haven of criminal activity.
