Ahmadinejad says Iran does not fear bombs, warships

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched a fresh tirade against the West on Sunday, Reuters reported.

The US and its allies suspect that Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon, charges which Iran denies.

"The Iranian nation doesn't fear your bombs and warships and planes. Such weapons are worth nothing," the Fars News Agency quoted him as saying in an address to a large number of people in Karaj, near Tehran.

His remarks come days after the United Nations' Group 5+1, which are the five permanent UN Security Council plus Germany, announced they are ready to resume talks with Iran after little diplomatic progress, and amid talk of possible Israeli airstrikes.

"You say to Iran all options are on the table. Leave them there until they rot, said Ahmadinejad. "The time of arrogance and colonialism has passed, and the era of your unreasonableness passes too."

Iran's President said Tehran was prepared to hold negotiations about its nuclear program with the West under an atmosphere of "logic," but would not be swayed by military threats and bullying attitude of the US and its allies.

Last week, President Barack Obama said there was a diplomatic "window of opportunity" in the crisis, comments praised by Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Ahmadinejad is set to appear before parliament on Thursday after being summoned last month to face questions about his handling of the economy, Fars News reported.
