The US may fast-track plans for targeted missile strikes at key Iranian nuclear facilities, according to reports.

And Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also reportedly trying to persuade Cabinet ministers to authorize a military strike against Iran’s nuclear program.

A poll of Israelis out Thursday showed significant support for a military strike on Iran, The Associated Press reported.

The UK Ministry of Defense believes the US may decide to fast-forward plans for targeted missile strikes at some Iranian facilities, The Guardian reports.

British officials say that if Washington presses ahead it will seek, and receive, UK military help for any mission, despite some deep reservations within the coalition government.

The Guardian reported that the British military was planning for an air and sea campaign involving Royal Navy ships and submarines equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles.

During previous conflicts in the Middle East, the US has sought permission from Britain to launch attacks from Diego Garcia, in British Indian ocean territory.

Under the headline "Should the UK join any US attack on Iran?," the Daily Mail wrote that "military action now seems inevitable and it looks only a question of 'when' rather than 'if,' at least for America and Israel."

In the poll by Israel's Dialog institute, published by Haaretz, 41 percent of those questioned said they would back an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities believed to produce bombs.

A similar number — 39 percent — oppose such an attack, which would be fraught with logistical difficulties and risk a deadly Iranian counterstrike and regional mayhem. Twenty percent were undecided.

Israel recently tested a missile thought capable of carrying a nuclear warhead to Iran.
