Israel Border Police beat and detained a 9-year-old Jewish boy on Saturday, Haaretz reported. The officers choked the boy and held him in the air for about 10 minutes, witnesses told Haaretz.

A doctor told the paper that the child had wounds at the front of his throat and bruises on other parts of his body. But the Border Police denied the charges, telling Haaretz that it is “unfortunate that the incident was presented in such a distorted way.”

The beating occurred after the boy had played with his friends near a closed military zone in Hebron.

Israeli security forces originally evicted Jewish settlers from Hebron last week, the Associated Press reported. Dozens of Jewish settlers had lived in an illegally occupied building in Hebron, a city where Arab-Israeli violence dates back decades.

While the evicted settlers were unhappy, peace groups welcomed the eviction, Al Jazeera reported. There were no injuries at the time of the eviction.

The 9-year-old boy was detained after he played near the house in Hebron that the settlers were evicted from, Haaretz reported.

The news follows the Israeli military's announcement today that an Israeli Defense Forces soldier has been suspended. The soldier was caught on film beating a Danish activist in the face with a gun.
