EDMONTON - Alberta Premier Alison Redford is welcoming her British Columbia counterpart to a club of politicians that likes to confound the experts.
Redford is congratulating Christy Clark following the Liberals majority win in Tuesday's election — a victory many political analysts had predicted would fall to the NDP.
Redford issued a message Tuesday night on the Twitter social media site that said "Proving the pollsters, pundits and political scientists so spectacularly wrong."
Some pollsters had predicted Redford's Progressive Conservative government would fall to the Opposition Wildrose in the last Alberta election, but the Tories prevailed with another majority.
The Alberta premier says in a separate statement that both provinces need to keep working together on initiatives that will improve the quality of life for people on both sides of the provincial boundary.
A key issue for Alberta is the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline, which would carry oilsands bitumen to port in Kitimat for shipment to Asian markets.
