TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,129.11 up 123.33 points):

BlackBerry (TSX:BB). Wireless technology. Down $3.97, or 26.38 per cent, at $11.08 on 15.49 million shares. The company reported a loss of US$84 million in the first quarter when the smartphone maker launched its latest Z10 touchscreen model.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 53 cents, or 10.91 per cent, at $5.39 on 7.68 million shares. Commodity prices were mixed and the beaten up gold sector was the biggest percentage advancer, up about eight per cent while the August bullion contract on the Nymex erased early losses to move up $12.10 to US$1,223.70 an ounce. September copper was unchanged at US$3.06 a pound and the base metals sector also moved up two per cent.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up $1.03, or 6.62 per cent, at $16.60 on 7.21 million shares.

Southern Pacific Resource Corp. (TSX:STP). Oil and gas. Down 6.5 cents, or 17.33 per cent, at 31 cents on 5.94 million shares. The August bullion contract on the Nymex erased early losses to move up $12.10 to US$1,223.70 an ounce. The energy sector was up 0.4 per cent with the August crude contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange down 49 cents to US$96.56 a barrel.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up 29 cents, or 14.87 per cent, at $2.24 on 5.32 million shares.

Rainy River Resources (TSX:RR). Metal explorer. Up 10 cents, or 2.90 per cent, at $3.55 on 5.17 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (881.40 up 21.16 points):

Apogee Silver Ltd. (TSXV:APE). Miner. Unchanged 2.5 cents on 7.65 million shares.

Nighthawk Gold Corp. (TSXV:NHK). Miner. Up half a cent, or 6.67 per cent, at eight cents on 4.73 million shares.

Company reporting major news:

BCE Inc. (TSX:BCE). Media and telecommunications. Up $1.16, or 2.76 per cent, at $43.12 on 2.48 million shares. The takeover of Astral Media Inc. (TSX:ACM.B) is now expected to close on July 5, the companies said Friday following the final regulatory approval by the CRTC. The broadcast regulator signed off on a revised version of the deal on Thursday, after rejecting an earlier proposal last year.

Shaw Communications (TSX:SJR.B). Cable TV and broadcasting. Up $1.30, or 5.43 per cent, at $25.34 on 2.38 million shares. The company said Friday it has been able to minimize damage from Alberta's floods on its infrastructure as it reported a third-quarter profit of $250 million.

ShawCor Ltd. (TSX:SCL). Energy services company. Up $2.06, or 5.22 per cent, at $41.56 on 111,080 shares. The company said Friday its pipe coating division has signed a deal worth US$30 million with Statoil Norway to provide pipeline coatings for the Edvard Grieg Oil Pipeline project and the Utsira High Gas Pipeline project
