GM's US sales rise 6 pct in June on strong demand for pickups, Cadillacs

DETROIT - GM says U.S. sales rose 6 per cent in June on continuing strong demand for large pickups.

General Motors Co. said sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra increased 29 per cent and 33 per cent, respectively, over last June. GM's newly updated pickup trucks began arriving at dealerships last month and are selling quickly, averaging just 10 days on dealers' lots, the company said.

Cadillac sales gained 15 per cent thanks to the new ATS and XTS sedans, while Chevrolet sales were up 7 per cent. Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze small car jumped 73 per cent, while the Volt electric car rose 53 per cent.

GMC sales rose 4.5 per cent. Buick brand sales dropped 4 per cent on as weak sales of sedans offset double-digit sales increases for the Verano small car and Enclave SUV.
