TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,166.66 up 20.98 points):

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX:SGY). Oil and gas. Up 48 cents, or 8.99 per cent, at $5.82 on 10.40 million shares. The Calgary-based company announced Wednesday that it will exceed its management's 2013 estimated production and that it has closed a previously-announced equity financing pegged at $247 million.

TORC Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:TOG). Oil and gas. Up 10 cents, or 6.58 per cent, at $1.62 on 4.84 million shares. The energy sector was up 0.30 per cent at 247.47 points.

Resverlogix Corp. (TSX:RVX). Biotechnology. Up 17 cents, or 25.37 per cent, at 84 cents on 2.01 million shares.

Bankers Petroleum Ltd. (TSX:BNK). Oil and gas. Up 14 cents, or 5.07 per cent, at $2.90 on 1.77 million shares.

CVTech Group Inc. (TSX:CVT). Utility. Unchanged at $1.26 on 1.72 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (885.62 up 4.44 points):

Donner Metals Ltd. (TSXV:DON). Metal explorer. Down 1.5 cents, or 30 per cent, at 3.5 cents on 4.54 million shares.

Renegade Petroleum Ltd. (TSXV:RPL). Oil and gas. Up 10 cents, or 9.43 per cent, at $1.16 on 3.66 million shares.

Company reporting major news:

Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G). Miner. Down 21 cents, or 0.81 per cent, at $25.81 on 628,157 shares after the company evacuated most of its employees at its Elenore project in the James Bay region of Quebec due to a forest fire. The company did not immediately disclose details, including the number of people involved.

Oromin Explorations Ltd. (TSX:OLE). Miner. Down half a cent, or 2.08 per cent, at 23.5 cents on 451,400 shares. Shareholders were told not to act on the unsolicited offer Teranga Gold Corp. proposed last month. Oromin said the board of directors is reviewing the offer, and has not made any official recommendation.

SNC-Lavalin (TSX:SNC). Engineering. Up 30 cents, or 0.68 per cent, at $44.15 on 61,909 shares. Gilles Laramee, head of infrastructure concession investments, announced he was retiring. The company, which have been battling bribery and other allegations, described Laramee's decision as a "personal choice."

WestJet (TSX:WJA). Airline. Down 11 cents, or 0.49 per cent, at $22.39 on 218,970 shares. Passenger traffic in June rose more than eight per cent despite some cancellations and weakness in advance bookings. However, an RBC Capital Markets analyst said that the uptick was below his estimate for 10 per cent growth.
