ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The government that represents the Inuit in northern Labrador says new freight rates for the coastal ferry service are too high.
The Nunatsiavut (noo-NAT-see-ah-voot) government is calling on the government of Newfoundland and Labrador to reverse its decision to raise the rates.
First Minister Darryl Shiwak says some rates have increased by more than 200 per cent.
He says the government was expecting a 10 per cent increase.
Shiwak says he's written to provincial Transport Minister Paul Davis to ask for the old rates to remain in place until the issue can be resolved.
