Decline in video lottery use sees $7 million profit drop at Atlantic Lottery

MONCTON, N.B. - Last year's net profit at Atlantic Lottery Corp. is down $7 million compared to the previous year.

The corporation's annual accountability report shows a net profit of $362.6 million for the 2012-2013 fiscal year compared to $369.7 million in 2011-2012.

While the sale of lottery tickets was up $19.9 million at $646.9 million, the corporation says video lottery revenues declined by $29.2 million to $381.8 million.

The corporation says aging VLTs, a reduction in the number of terminals and the impact of the responsible player registration program in Nova Scotia were factors in the revenue decline.

It says it also paid out $367.7 million in prizes to Atlantic Canadians, the largest amount in recent years.
