Charges laid against Ontario couple after 40 pythons found in motel

BRANTFORD, Ont. - A southern Ontario couple has been charged with animal cruelty after 40 ball python snakes and five eggs were found in a motel room.

The reptiles, some of them more than a metre long, were found last week in plastic storage bins in a room at the Bell City Motel in Brantford, Ont.

The Ontario SPCA says the snakes were dehydrated, and didn't have water or enough space.

The snakes' owners weren't there when the animals were found, but the SPCA says they later surrendered their pets to investigators.

A man and a woman are charged with causing distress to an animal, failing to provide care necessary for an animal's general welfare and failing to provide adequate and appropriate water.
