TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (13,370.66 up 44.62 points):

Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY). Bank. Up $1.18, or 1.69 per cent, at $71.06 on 12.44 million shares.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up 13 cents, or 0.69 per cent, at $19.06 on 8.54 million shares. The gold sector was up 0.30 per cent at 171.79 points.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Plane and train maker. Up five cents, or 1.11 per cent, at $4.57 on 6.70 million shares.

Twin Butte Energy Ltd. (TSX:TBE). Oil and gas. Down a penny, or 0.47 per cent, at $2.13 on 6.22 million shares.

Air Canada (TSX:AC.B). Airline. Up six cents, or 0.87 per cent, at $6.96 on 5.70 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (925.88 down 0.44 point):

Border Petroleum Corp. (TSXV:BOR). Oil and gas. Unchanged at a penny on 5.52 million shares.

Africa Hydrocarbons Inc. (TSXV:NFK). Oil and gas. Up 2.5 cents, or 9.43 per cent, at 29 cents on 4.87 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Loblaw Companies Ltd. (TSX:L). Grocer. Down $3.61, or 7.55 per cent, at $44.23 on 4.04 million shares. Canada's largest grocer revised its profit outlook for this year to flat as a result of reduced margins. The company behind Loblaws, President's Choice and the Joe Fresh clothing line says third-quarter earnings totalled $154 million or 55 cents per share, down from $217 million or 77 cents per share while revenue was up 1.9 per cent to $10 billion.

Metro Inc. (TSX:MRU). Grocer. Down $3.71, or 5.65 per cent, at $62 on 1.67 million shares. The company had $83.6 million or 88 cents per diluted share of net income under standard accounting for the fourth quarter, which had one week less than usual. That was down from $145.1 million or $1.46 per share in the same period last year. Revenue slipped 1.1 per cent to $2.61 billion.
