Actor Steven Seagal to lead Arizona school arms-training event

PHOENIX (Reuters) - Controversial Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio, who styles himself as "America's Toughest Sheriff," has enlisted action film star Steven Seagal to lead a training exercise for members of his armed volunteer posse on how to respond to a school shooting. The training event will involve six instructors leading 40 armed volunteers through a simulated shooting on Saturday, with teenagers acting as students, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Justin Bieber becomes youngest artist with five No. 1 albums

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Canadian pop star Justin Bieber became the youngest artist to land five chart-topping albums in the United States on Wednesday when his latest record, "Believe Acoustic," debuted atop the Billboard 200 album chart. "Believe Acoustic," which features stripped down versions of Bieber's songs from his fourth No. 1 album, "Believe," released last June, as well as three new songs, sold 211,000 copies in its first week according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan.

Daniel Day-Lewis seen winning Best Actor Oscar, poll shows

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Daniel Day-Lewis is expected to make Hollywood history by winning his third Best Actor Oscar on February 24 but the public is split over who deserves the Best Supporting Actor prize, a Reuters poll showed on Wednesday. Day-Lewis, 55, has already picked up almost every major award this season for playing U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's Civil War-era drama "Lincoln" and he is front-runner for the top British BAFTA award on February 10.

Martial arts epic to kick off Berlin film festival

BERLIN (Reuters) - The 2013 Berlin film festival kicks off on Thursday with "The Grandmaster", a martial arts epic from Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai who is also presiding over this year's jury. The 11-day stretch of screenings, photocalls, interviews and parties will showcase hundreds of movies, with much of the focus on 19 entries in the main competition and a handful of star-studded U.S. titles.

Vienna set to party like it's 1899

VIENNA (Reuters) - Attending this year's Vienna Opera Ball will be a dream come true for Oscar-winning U.S. actress Mira Sorvino, she said on Wednesday as the Austrian capital put the finishing touches on it most glittering social event. "I feel like I'm going to be in a fairy tale ball, like Cinderella walking into the ball," she told reporters.

But one U.S. woman is demonstrating that in Northern Ireland, peace and reconciliation can also be fostered in more personal and expressive ways. Smooth-singing Josh Groban offers edgier sound on new album

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - After selling more than 22 million albums in the United States and becoming a staple in the classical music field, singer Josh Groban is embracing an edgier sound for his latest record, "All That Echoes," out on Tuesday. Groban, 31, put together a collection of covers and original songs for the album, including a rendition of one of his personal favorites, "Falling Slowly" from the movie and stage musical "Once."

Governor Christie, long a target of jokes, joins the fun on Letterman

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is one of the most closely watched figures in U.S. politics but he is also the frequent target of fat jokes. Now, Christie is making it clear he can play along. Appearing on Monday on "The Late Show with David Letterman," Christie recited one-liners the late-night comedian has performed at his expense. They included: "A billion dollars will be spent on potato chips for Super Bowl Sunday, and that's just at Governor Christie's house."
