Oscar voting closes after fierce studio campaigns

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Voting for Sunday's Oscars, the highest honors in the movie industry, closed on Tuesday evening after a big spending campaign by Hollywood studios and the first online balloting system in the 85-year history of the Academy Awards. More than 5,800 movie industry professionals who are members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences were invited to vote in 24 Oscar categories, starting on February 8 and ending at 5 p.m. PST on Tuesday (0100 GMT On Wednesday).

Oscar "losers" to go home with $45,000 gift bags

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar nominees who don't end up with a coveted gold statuette at the Academy Awards on Sunday won't go home empty handed after all. Los Angeles-based marketing firm Distinctive Assets will be handing out its annual "Everyone Wins at the Oscars Nominee Gift Bag", valued at more than $45,000, to the talented and well-dressed "losers," the company said on Tuesday.

Paul McCartney tops Bonnaroo music festival lineup

NASHVILLE, Tenn (Reuters) - Paul McCartney will perform at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee in June along with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Mumford & Sons, Bjork and Wilco, festival organizers said on Tuesday. "Top to bottom, this is one of the strongest lineups we have ever had," Bonnaroo spokesman Jeff Cuellar said in an interview. "Looking at the festival landscape out there ... no other American festival has Mumford & Sons, Paul McCartney and Bjork all under one roof."

Michael Jackson's teenage son lands U.S. television gig

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The teenage son of late pop star Michael Jackson has signed up to be a correspondent for the "Entertainment Tonight" television show, following in the footsteps of his show business family. Prince Jackson, 16, was to debut on "Entertainment Tonight" on Tuesday, interviewing actors James Franco, Zach Braff and director Sam Raimi as they promote their upcoming film "Oz the Great and Powerful," the program said.

Singer Sande in line for big prize at BRIT awards

Singer Morrissey requests meat-free Los Angeles concert venue

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - British singer Morrissey has convinced a Los Angeles concert venue to not sell meat at concessions during his performance next month. The longtime animal rights activist and former singer for 1980s rock group The Smiths urged the Staples Center arena to shutter the concession stands of fast food chain McDonald's <MCD.N> and to halt the sale of meat by other outlets at the venue for his March 1 performance.

Court backs documentary maker Burns in battle with NYC

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Filmmaker Ken Burns won a favorable ruling in a battle to keep outtakes from his 2012 documentary "The Central Park Five" from the New York City Police Department after a federal judge in Manhattan sided with his production company on Tuesday. Last October, the city subpoenaed all images, audio tapes and other items related to the making of the documentary, which chronicles the conviction of five black and Hispanic teenage boys for the brutal 1989 rape of Trisha Meili, a white woman who was jogging in Central Park. The case was reversed in 2002, leading to a still-unresolved $250 million lawsuit that the so-called "Central Park Five" and their families brought against the city and the police department.

Jay-Z, Timberlake perform at first London Olympic park concert
