Rangers 3, Royals 1: Jurickson Profar slammed a tiebreaking home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give host Texas the series win over Kansas City.
The 20-year-old Profar lined a two-out shot off J.C. Gutierrez (0-1) into the first row of seats in right field and David Murphy added a run-scoring single later in the inning as the Rangers rebounded from Saturday's 4-1 loss.
Tanner Scheppers (4-0) worked two-thirds of an inning for the victory after Neal Cotts surrendered the tying run in the eighth and closer Joe Nathan tossed a perfect ninth for his 17th save. Texas starter Yu Darvish allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings and left with a 1-0 lead.
Royals right-hander Ervin Santana remained winless over his last six outings despite limiting the Rangers to one unearned run and three hits in seven strong innings. Kansas City scored its lone run in the eighth, when Alex Gordon doubled and later scored on Eric Hosmer's groundout.
Texas scored an unearned run in its first at-bat when Elvis Andrus reached on a throwing error, moved to third on a flyout and scored on Lance Berkman's groundout. The Royals loaded the bases with no outs in the second but could not dent Darvish, who was helped out when center fielder Craig Gentry threw out Billy Butler at home plate.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Darvish exited after throwing 99 pitches, his second-lowest total of the season. He had an 85-pitch outing in his second start on April 7. ... The Royals have scored only 12 runs during the six-start drought of Santana, who has gone at least seven innings in four straight outings. ... Rangers RHP Alexi Ogando (biceps tendinitis) will come off the 15-day disabled list at Boston on Wednesday in the middle game of a three-game set. The Royals open a nine-game homestand Tuesday against Minnesota.
