U.N. peacekeeping chief confirms 'shooting' on Syria-Israel border

PARIS (Reuters) - The head of the United Nations' peacekeeping operations confirmed on Thursday there had been incidents on the Syrian-Israeli border.

"Yes there was shooting," Herve Ladsous told reporters during a visit to Paris, adding the U.N. would maintain its involvement in the nearby Golan Heights region. Earlier, rebels seized a U.N.-manned border crossing linking Israel and Syria on Thursday, according to local activists.
