After going 3-for-4 with a double on Tuesday night, Izturis went 0-for-3 but just missed hitting a two-run homer in the second inning. A's RF Josh Reddick caught his blast at the wall.

CF Shin-Soo Choo's struggles at the plate continued Wednesday when he went 0-for-3 with a walk in a 5-0 loss to the A's. Choo has one hit in his past 15 at-bats over five games. For the season, he's hitting .271 with 11 home runs and 25 RBIs.
RHP Homer Bailey allowed four runs on six hits over six innings Wednesday, taking the loss as the Reds fell 5-0 to the Oakland Athletics. Bailey's record dropped to 4-6. He's 1-3 over his past six starts. Bailey struck out seven and walked only two, but he gave up four runs on four hits in the fourth, including a three-run homer to A's 3B Josh Donaldson, who crushed a first-pitch slider.
RHP Johnny Cueto will make his ninth start of the season and first career appearance against Texas on Friday when the Reds open a three-game road series against the Rangers. Cueto is coming off a rough outing at Arizona. He allowed seven earned runs and 11 hits, tying his career high. He lasted just 4 1/3 innings in an 11-5 loss to the Diamondbacks. Cueto has had two stints on the disabled list this season, the first for a strained right lat and the second for a strained right shoulder. He'll make his third start Friday since being activated June 16.
