RHP Tanner Scheppers returned to the mound after allowing a walk-off home run to Ichiro Suzuki on Tuesday and retired the side in the eighth. He has issued runs in just five of 38 appearances this season and opponents are hitting .135 (12-for-89) against him over his last 25 outings.

CF Leonys Martin extended his career-high hitting streak to 11 games. The streak began June 15 and he is hitting .421 (16-for-38) in that span.

RHP Justin Grimm has struggled since opening the season 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in four April starts. Grimm had a 5.05 ERA last month but that number has skyrocketed to 9.90 in four starts this month. Grimm has pitched well in his wins, by posting a 2.84 ERA in those games and that includes last Wednesday against Oakland when he allowed three runs and three hits in five innings of a 9-4 win. He also has been aided by 49 runs of support in those wins. Grimm will be making his first career start Wednesday night against the Yankees.

RF Nelson Cruz became the fifth Ranger to hit 20 home runs in five straight seasons, joining Juan Gonzalez, Ivan Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro and Pete Incaviglia. He also is hitting .324 (12-for-37) with four home runs and 13 RBIs over his last nine games since June 17.

RHP Alexi Ogando was cleared to resume throwing off a mound. He has been sidelined since June 9 due to right shoulder inflammation, and he began a throwing program June 14.

RHP Joakim Soria (Tommy John surgery) made another rehab appearance Wednesday with the team's Arizona Summer League affiliate. The appearance consisted of one scoreless inning and came after he struck out three in two hitless innings for Double-A Frisco last week.
