1B James Loney finished 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 13 games. That marks the longest streak of his career since 2008, when he recorded a 13-game strike from Aug. 21-Sept. 02 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
RHP Roberto Hernandez will make his eighth road start in the third game of a four-game series with the Astros. Hernandez is 1-5 with a 5.93 ERA away from Tropicana Field this season and sports a road ERA (4.96) more than a half-run higher than his career home ERA (4.41). Hernandez has never faced the Astros, one of five teams he has yet to pitch against.
3B Ryan Roberts was optioned to Triple-A Durham to make room on the roster for LHP David Price. On Monday night, Roberts recorded his fourth career two-homer game as part of a 3-for-5, three-RBI performance. Over 49 games (including 30 starts), Roberts hit .250 with five home runs and 16 RBIs.
3B Evan Longoria returned to action as the designated hitter Tuesday and went 2-for-4 with a walk. It was his first game appearance since leaving the Friday game after irritating the plantar fasciitis problem in his right foot.
LHP David Price turned in a dominating performance in his first start since May 15, allowing three hits while striking out 10 over seven shutout innings. Price needed just 70 pitches to complete his seven frames and recorded eight called third strikes. His strikeout total represented a season high. Price missed 44 games with a left triceps strain.
CF Desmond Jennings tied his career high with four RBIs, a feat he had accomplished twice previously, the last time coming June 15, 2012, against the Miami Marlins. Jennings also recorded his 10th home run and 10th steal, becoming the fifth player in the American League to reach double figures in both categories this season.
