That's the most strikeouts by an Indians pitcher in his major league debut since Luis Tiant struck out 11 Yankees on July 19, 1964. It was a spot start for Salazar, who was called up from Triple-A Columbus specifically to start this game. Following the game he packed his equipment bag and headed back to Columbus.

RHP Preston Guilmet was optioned to Triple-A Columbus when the Indians recalled RHP Danny Salazar from to start Thursday's game. Guilmet was promoted July 7 and made his major league debut Wednesday, pitching two-thirds of a scoreless inning against the Blue Jays.

RHP Chris Perez picked up his 11th save Thursday. Since being activated off the disabled list on June 27, Perez is 5-for-5 in save opportunities, with a 1.13 ERA.

SS Asdrubal Cabrera homered off R.A. Dickey in the first inning Thursday. In his career vs. Dickey, Cabrera is 3-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI.

INF Mark Reynolds was 0-for-3 Thursday as his dismal month of July continues. Reynolds, who hit .187 in June, is hitting .069 (2-for-26) in July.
