RHP Randall Delgado will face the Red Sox on Friday to start a three-game interleague series at Fenway Park. Delgado was 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA in five starts in July, including a complete-game, three-hit shutout in his last outing, against San Diego. He has struck out 38 and walked 10 in 53 1/3 innings this season.

CF Adam Eaton is 3-for-25 (.120) in his last six games after going 1-for-4 with a strikeout against the Rangers' Yu Darvish. "As a hitter, you have a lot of different thought processes in the box," Eaton said of facing Darvish, who matched a career high with 14 strikeouts Thursday. "When you hit your spots and you have that many pitches, it's tough as a hitter to put the ball in play and get good swings on the ball."

RHP Zeke Spruill, who was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Thursday, was touched up for five runs on seven hits in four innings in his first major-league start, against the Texas Rangers. He struck out three but allowed solo home runs to A.J. Pierzynski, Mitch Moreland and David Murphy in the second, third and fourth innings.

2B Martin Prado, who went 2-for-4 on Thursday against Texas, is 17-for-48 (.354) in his first 13 games since the All-Star break. Since June 25, he is hitting .331 with seven doubles, a triple, four home runs and 18 RBIs.

C Miguel Montero (back strain) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday (retroactive to Monday) and was to return to Arizona further tests rather than accompany the team to Boston for a three-game series. Montero missed four games the week before the All-Star break with back inflammation. An MRI at that time revealed no structural damage. Arizona brought up Tuffy Gosewisch from Triple-A Reno to take Montero's roster spot. Montero was batting .228 with nine home runs and 34 RBI. Only St. Louis' Yadier Molina has caught more innings this season.

RHP Chaz Roe was optioned to Triple-A Reno to make room for RHP Zeke Spruill. Roe, who was called up Monday, gave up one run on three hits in one inning of a 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday. He has a 5.79 ERA in four appearances for Arizona this season.
