SS Starlin Castro is hitting .292 (40-for-137) and has committed just one error in his past 32 games since returning June 26 after a day off. That off day ended a streak of 269 consecutive game played. Prior to the break, he batted .140 and committed five errors in 10 games between June 14-23.
LHP Travis Wood (7-7, 2.79 ERA) is scheduled to make his 22nd start of the season and 13th at home Friday. He picked up his seventh victory in the Cubs' 2-1 triumph at San Francisco on Sunday, allowing an unearned run on four hits while walking four and striking out seven in seven innings. It was his 18th quality start. Wood is 1-1 all-time against Los Angeles with a 6.48 ERA in three career starts.
1B Anthony Rizzo (2-for-3, two home runs) recorded his third multi-homer game and second of the season. He's the first Cub since Ron Santo to record two 15-homer seasons before the age of 24. With his 16th and 17th homers, he surpassed last season's total. Rizzo is hitting .450 (9-for-20) with three home runs and four RBIs in his past six games.
LF Junior Lake (2-for-4, two home runs) had his first career Wrigley Field homer as well as his first career multi-homer game. He's the third Cub since 1949 with a two-homer game in his first 15 contests, joining Brant Brown (1996) and Angel Pagan (2006). Lake and 1B Anthony Rizzo hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the first, the Cubs' fifth set of consecutive homers this season.
LHP Chris Rusin (1-1) made his first Wrigley Field start Thursday and was charged with a season-high four runs on seven hits and three walks in a loss to the Dodgers. He's now 3-4 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 career big-league starts.
